Several spots in central Iowa experienced high levels of water after a constant downpour of rainfall Saturday night.

Local 5 has team coverage of severe weather hitting various parts of the metro.

Rain Totals

Beaverdale

Birdland neighborhood

Driving by Birdland Marina, water covered up what is normally Captain Roy’s. Residents of the neighborhood say the flooding is something they’ve seen before, and even in a less-than-ideal situation, the cleanup process seems to be going smoothly.

“People just started showing up this morning, with pickup trucks and trailers and wanted to help,” said Bill Thompson of Des Moines. “So it’s heartwarming.”

Fourmile Creek

The area off E. Douglas Ave. near the Park Winds Apartments saw high levels of flooding, with several cars under water.

Sargent Park

The river near Sargent Park on Des Moines’ east side is so high, it’s spilling into the park itself. Residents of a nearby hospice home had to be evacuated.

Officials are warning people to stay away from flooded areas, because the currents are fast and you can be swept away if you’re not careful.
