Large hail and heavy rainfall moved through the Des Moines metro right as many were driving home from work Tuesday afternoon.

Around 5:30 pm, hail as large as baseballs were reported near the Des Moines International Airport. Hail also impacted downtown Des Moines.

Des Moines received 3.59″ of rainfall on Tuesday – a record amount for October 1. This was the second rainiest October day in recorded history for the metro.
