Alex Cohen fine tuning his play-by-play calling while he waits for the Iowa Cubs' season to start

Major League Baseball has yet to throw out the first pitch on the regular season. Minor League Baseball is right there with them and so is everyone tied to the sport

DES MOINES, Iowa — Major League Baseball was supposed to start March 26.

Opening Day never happened.

Triple-A baseball was slated to throw out the first pitch April 9th-that won't happen either.

"It's a complete Culture Shock."

Alex Cohen is the voice of the Iowa Cubs, doing play-by-play for the game broadcasts.

So he's found a way to use this time without baseball to better himself by connecting with fellow broadcasters from all over the country

"It's definitely a learning moment and it lets you know that you're part of a much bigger fraternity. It's not just the broadcasters all of the broadcasters that work in sports that are being effectively halted not just baseball but basketball, hockey but college sports. We're all in this together."

They're not just exchanging stories but advice and even calls from past games.

"So when the season starts whether its may one June one July one we can get back to our best tape and we've just been sending tapes back and forth whether it's a rookie level broadcaster or a big league broadcaster."

Because eventually we will get back to the ballpark to watch America's pastime at it's finest again.

That's a moment Cohen looks forward to.

"I picture it every day. We're all altered whether it's Iowa, New York, Seattle, Nashville, Memphis we've all been altered by this so just coming to Principal Park and seeing all of us unite, we're back baseball is here, and I think coming to a packed Principal Park and seeing fans cheering on an Iowa Cubs victory, that'd be icing on the cake."
