A trip to Florida in late December sounds like a good idea, and the Hawkeyes will be doing just that, meeting Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Here’s how some of the players feel about going to Tampa.

Parker Hesse, Iowa defensive end: “It was a pretty good trip. You know last time, obviously if we would’ve won it would’ve been awesome. So first and foremost you know that’s what we wanna take care of but there’s a lot of stuff to be done there and it’s pretty easy to get around unlike a lot of places, other places we’ve been to bowls so I don’t know for sure if there’s one thing, just look forward to the trip.”

Geno Stone, Iowa defensive back: “I don’t know this is my first time being in Florida to be honest, so just being able to soak in the atmosphere and being down in Florida with my teammates and just enjoying the whole experience.”

Jake Gervase, Iowa safety: “More looking forward to my family being there, you know I’ve been talking to them down there I think the total count is up to 85. Whether that’s family or friends I got 85 people coming to the game so hopefully they have an awesome day. I know my mom bought a tailgate spot they’re gonna be enjoying the day and then up there in the stands so it’s gonna be a cool experience for my whole family to get to be able to see my last game in the black and gold.”
