Polk County Sheriff's Office: Highway 65 southbound blocked due to 'chemical spill'

An official with the Polk County Sheriff's Office told Local 5 "the chemical spill is made up of pesticides", and hazmat teams are on the scene.

ALTOONA, Iowa — Highway 65 southbound is closed just south of Adventureland due to a chemical spill on the road, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, parts of Highway 65 were shut off from traffic, with emergency vehicles blocking anyone from going south toward Altoona and Pleasant Hill.

Police also blocked some streets near the highway and 46th Avenue.

An official with the Polk County Sheriff's Office told Local 5 "the chemical spill is made up of pesticides", which is why hazmat teams were called in.

The scene was clear as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to Polk County Sheriff's Office officials.
