'Tis the season for construction, and the Iowa Department of Transportation wants Interstate 80 travelers to be aware of nighttime construction worth that's scheduled to start May 16 near West Des Moines.

The Iowa DOT announced Wednesday that work on east- and westbound I-80 between Jordan Creek Parkway (exit 121) and Grand Prairie Parkway (exit 118) will require intermittent lane closures daily from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting May 16.

The project is scheduled to wrap up by Dec. 2, weather permitting.

That's not the only project the DOT will be working on. Starting May 17, weather permitting, both shoulders of east- and westbound I-80 will be under construction in the same area as the project above.

The Iowa DOT wants to remind drivers in the area to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines are at least double in work zones.
