AMES, Iowa — Parts of Ridgewood Avenue in Ames will be closed starting Thursday, June 8, as crews work on improving underground utilities.

According to a press release from the city, the construction will affect Ridgewood Avenue between Sixth and Ninth streets for an estimated two or three days.

Residents will be able to drive through the area, but general traffic will be stopped while construction is ongoing.

"Motorists are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time to detour around the work zone. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling near construction zones," the release reads.

Sidewalks will remain open in the area, but it's recommended to keep children and pets away from the construction if possible.
