DES MOINES, Iowa — An early morning crash sent two drivers to the hospital and slowed westbound traffic on I-235 for hours Thursday morning, West Des Moines police say.

Officers told Local 5 that an SUV rear-ended a stalled car on the shoulder of the highway near 63rd Street around 6:30 a.m.

The West Des Moines Fire Department's emergency crews removed both drivers from their vehicles and transported them to local hospitals.

Police believe the drivers were only minorly injured. Traffic was stalled until the scene was cleared around 8 a.m.
