Changes coming to downtown Des Moines street parking

Three new pay stations are currently set up outside the Municipal Services Center on MLK Jr Pkwy.

DES MOINES, Iowa — By this time next year, you likely won't be feeding the meters in downtown Des Moines.

That's because the city has a goal to convert all 3,500 metered spaces downtown and in the East Village to pay stations.

The city's traffic engineer says you can expect to see the pay stations starting in April 2021 or around that time.

"I think the reasons for the change is to engage the newest technology and provide the benefits to our patrons, the citizens, the visitors to the downtown areas of Des Moines," engineer John Davis said.

Three of the pay stations are currently set up outside the Municipal Services Center on MLK Jr Pkwy.

You can also expect a mobile app in the future where you can pay for parking.
