WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —

For a lot of Iowa families, there's about a month left until school starts. And that means the last few vacations or road trips are happening right now.

If you're planning to vacation by car, you might experience some sticker shock while filling up.

According to GasBuddy, the West Coast is seeing gas prices of almost $4 a gallon. Toward the Midwest and South, a little lower, between $2.75 and $3 per gallon.

The average price of gas is up two cents per gallon the past two weeks, now sitting at $3.22/gallon.

Industry experts think prices might be flattening because gas supply is pretty good right now. But to put this in perspective, the price for gas is 98 cents higher than it was a year ago.

There is even a gas cost calculator from AAA you can put in the make and model of your car and put in your trip details to see how much your trip will cost at the pump.
