The app is free to download in both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
Inside the app, Local 5's team of meteorologists offers interactive radar, video forecasts, hour-by-hour planners and customized weather alerts tailored to your zip code.
Follow these steps to enable customized weather alerts on an iPhone or Android:
- Select Settings in the top right corner, then Notification Settings, and then Severe Weather Alerts
- Toggle notifications ON to get alerts sent straight to a device when severe weather watches, warnings or advisories are issued
- Choose Change Default Location and choose up to 5 cities or zip codes, either in Iowa or nationwide
- Go back to Notifications and select Topic Alerts and Notifications
- Toggle ON weather to receive regular alerts about the forecast
