Mild tonight, but WINTER returns Friday

Some freezing rain could cause issues in NW Iowa

Expect more scattered April showers heading into the evening hours. Temperatures will remain in the 50s before midnight with SE winds.  A very strong cold front will push into western Iowa tonight and through the metro before dawn, so temps will being their tumble in the early morning hours.  By the time you head out the door Friday morning, temps are likely to already be in the 30s with a stiff NW wind and some rain.

Central and eastern Iowa will mainly just receive rain, but some wintry weather is expected farther north and west. Freezing rain is the primary concern Thursday night through Friday morning with ice accumulations up to .1" possible. Warm road temperatures may limit impacts to travel, but slick roads are certainly possible in NW Iowa with elevated surfaces more likely to accrue ice. The weekend will start off cool with 20s Saturday morning and only the low 50s by the afternoon, but it should be milder Sunday with highs in the low 60s. We'll continue that warming trend into next week with highs near 70 on Monday and in the upper 70s on Tuesday!
