Overnight thunderstorms bring flooding to central Iowa

Local 5 is compiling storm damage videos and images from overnight storms that slammed into central Iowa.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowans are cleaning up after storms once again Monday following scattered thunderstorms overnight and into Monday. 

Streets in the East Village of Des Moines flooded overnight. Video from Jourdan Harkless shows cars submerged along Des Moines Street & 2nd Street. 

Ashley Barakat sent a picture of flooding in her neighborhood near State Avenue. Viewers told Local 5 that the flooding was several inches deep in that area.

Des Moines received 1.5" of rain Monday morning. An estimated 2-5" of rain has fallen in parks of Franklin, Harden, Marshall and Tama counties since Sunday afternoon.
