Why I'm Running the Principal 5K Road Race

I've battled my weight now for years. It's an issue my entire family has dealt with, but I couldn't sit idly by and just accept that. Just a little over a year ago, I was about 40 pounds heavier than my current weight. I felt sluggish and tired most of the time. I became a creature of habit on skipping the workout and hitting the drive-thru on the way home.

This is why I have decided to train for a 5K. I've made so much progress on my journey to becoming healthier, but I am still not where I want to be. I have had a tough time making this a lifestyle choice, and I'm hoping this training will help change that. I've never run in a race before (other than the mile in middle school gym class!) and I'm excited to take on this new challenge!

Why I'm Running the IMT Des Moines Half Marathon

I want to stay as young as possible for as long as possible. I am a strong believer that moving my body will lead to a better, longer lasting, and overall happier life.

The reason I put road races on my calendar is to set a goal. Setting a goal helps me get out and move when I have motivation. I don't want to run a half marathon without the proper training. Once I dedicate myself to that goal, there's nothing that can stop me! That being said, life, work, and my children take priority most of the time. It's a challenge for me to squeeze in any sort of regular workout plan. let alone time to put together a training regime!

I hope by committing to running a half marathon, I have set a new goal, and I hold myself accountable for reaching it.
