A multimillion dollar construction project on I-35 north is still lagging behind schedule.
The flyover bridge where I-35 meets Highway 30 has been a work in progress since late 2017, but still isn’t near completion.
Sleeves on the bridge were not properly consructed, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
“The contractor, Minnowa, they are committed to finishing the project as soon as they can,” said Scott Dockstader with the Iowa DOT.
Each additional day of work means the construction company pays out $5,500—and with more than 50 extra working days to-date, that total sits at $275,000.
