DES MOINES – Democrat Cindy Axne has already officially taken the reins in Congress, but on Saturday she wanted to thank the people who helped get her there.
Dozens of people showed up at Axne’s Des Moines office, as she took the oath of office in front of her fellow Iowans. She thanked them all for getting here, and says she’s working hard to steady things in Washington.
“Walking into a government shutdown adds an extra layer of difficulty,” said Axne. “I’ll tell you what, we’ve got an opportunity and I’ve met new Democrats and Republicans across the aisle who are willing to work together and I think this difficult situation may give us the opportunity to work together and form those relationships and move forward.”
Axne made three other congressional visits on Saturday, including stops in Cass and Madison counties.
