Doctor weighs in as second measles case is confirmed in Iowa

News

A second case of measles has been confirmed in Iowa.

This case involves an unvaccinated northeastern Iowan.  This person was living in the same house as the first confirmed case of measles.

According to state officials, this person is under voluntary confinement in northeast Iowa to prevent any other further exposures.

Dr. Nathan Boonstra is a pediatrician at Blank Children’s Hospital.  He encourages parents to get their kids vaccinates.

“Everything we do is a comparison of risks.  When we talk about the risk of measles and the risk of the vaccine, there is no question you are far safer getting the vaccine than you are getting measles,” Dr. Boonstra said.
