Iowa voters get heated at Sen. Grassley’s town hall

ATLANTIC – Sen. Chuck Grassley was in the hot seat on Tuesday morning during a town hall he hosted in Atlantic.

Dozens of people came out to ask the senior senator questions about his time in Washington and what he’s doing for the community. Some members of the crowd asked about tax reform. Others talked about President Donald Trump.

“I’m wondering what you think about students and how they’re learning civility from the president’s interactions?” asked one woman in the crowd.

“You have taken my party away from me and the rest of the citizens of Iowa!” shouted one man in the back of the room.

Grassley answered a question about tax returns, and how they are a little lower this year than in years past.

“So answering your question, when you have a $157 million tax credit filed, it’s difficult for me to respond to your question about why the individual you are talking about is paying more taxes,” said Grassley. He said that the tax reform legislation signed by Trump in late 2017 indicated how much Americans would be saving in their taxes.
