1 arrested, 2 other suspects named in 2018 Kelley home invasion

Local News

The Story County Sheriff’s Office and Story County Attorney’s Office have released more information about a 2018 home robbery in the City of Kelley.

82-year-old Patricia Kyle was the victim of the brutal home invasion in August 2018. Police say three men entered her home close to midnight on August 23, 2018 and beat her, leaving the elderly woman severely bruised and battered.

“This would be one of the most brutal assaults, especially in a home invasion situation,” Capt. Barry Thomas with the Story County Sheriff’s Office said in 2018.

Kyle was sprayed in the face with a “chemical agent” resulting in temporary loss of sight and was struck in the head and face and sexually assault, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Property taken from the home is valued at less than $1,000.

The three suspects then went to a second residence in Kelley and stole more than $1,500 of property, including a 1998 Cadillac DeVille. The car was recovered the next day.

Jacob Jimenez, Manuel Balderas and Louis Cruz have all been charged with the following:

• Sexual Abuse in the First Degree

• Burglary in the First Degree

• Robbery in the First Degree

• Willful Injury

• Theft in the Second Degree (x2)

• Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent

Cruz was taken into custody by pollice in Texas.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Jimenez or Balderas are asked to contact Sgt. Anthony Rhoad at 515-382-7529 or Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 515-223-1400.

The Story County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Story County Attorney’s Office.
