WEST DES MOINES – An 18-year-old is in the Polk County jail, charged with kidnapping and robbery.
According to court documents, John Templeton IV met a 15-year-old victim at the Raccoon River Park on May 11. Templeton was allegedly going to buy five grams of marijuana. When Templeton got to the park, he allegedly told the victim to come into his car to conduct the exchange. After the victim got into the car, police say that Templeton and four other people inside the car started to physically beat the victim, robbing him of his cell phone and pocket knife.
Court documents say that Templeton allegedly drove the victim out of the park and into the Deer Ridge Apartment Complex, “against the victim’s will and consent.” The victim, according to police, was told to get out of the car and start running. During the robbery, police say that a gun was passed around the car and pointed at the victim.
The robbery, according to police, started in West Des Moines and ended in Des Moines. The victim picked Templeton out of a digital lineup as being the driver and one of the people who allegedly robbed him.
Police haven’t released any more information about the other people in the car.
