DES MOINES – A Des Moines group is getting some major recognition for its work with people with disabilities.
The fourth annual Iowa Job Honor Awards showcased Iowans who have overcome barriers to employment. It also honored the employers who hire them. This year, the Animal Rescue League took home an award for hiring people with developmental disabilities. ARL says it’s all about giving people second chances.
“The Animal Rescue League is all about second chances and that extends to people as well as animals. And second chances is what we’re all about and so, yes, this is something we definitely want to see associated with the Animal Rescue League,” said Tom Colvin, executive director at Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
The awards are expanding nationally under the banner of America’s Job Honor Awards.
