Board of Regents approves tuition hike for 2018-19

The Iowa Board of Regents has approved a proposal that would increase undergraduate and graduate tuition for Iowa's three state universities for both residents and nonresidents.

The plan outlines a 3.8% tuition increase for undergraduate resident at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, and 2.8% for the University of Northern Iowa.

Nonresidents will see a 2.1% increase at the University of Iowa, 4.0% increase at Iowa State University, and 1.2% increase at the University of Northern Iowa.

Each school will also implement a slight increase in annual student fees: 1.2% ($18) for the University of Iowa, 5.8% ($68.50) for Iowa State University and 2.4% ($30) for the University of Northern Iowa.

The approval also includes "varying differential tuition rates for certain higher-cost programs". For example, undergraduate resident business students (lower division) at Iowa State will see a $284 (3.8%) tuition increase for the 2018-19 academic year, while an undergraduate resident industrial design student's tuition will go up by $818 (10.2%).
