Celebrating Johnston’s 50th Anniversary all weekend long

JOHNSTON– The celebration of Johnston’s 50 Anniversary continues with activities for residents of all ages all weekend long.

Thursday June 13,  you can find a carnival, live entertainment, Bill Riley Talent show, 5K run, and much more as the annual celebration Green Days kicks off. Thursday’s main event is the CultureALL event  from 6 to 8 pm. This hands-on event will feature traditional, folk and Bollywood dance from India and West African drumming. Saturday, you can pick the best seat for the parade beginning at 10 am. A firework show will wrap up the Green Days celebration.

Saturday, you can taste the smoked meats and incredible side-dishes made by Johnston’s police, fire and military heroes at the Smokin’ Heroes Smoke-Off. The money raised from this event will support four Johnston High School students who are attending the International Youth Camp with the sister city of Kosovo. The event will run from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a free-will offering.

The second neighborhood picnic will be held Tuesday June 18 at Terra Park starting at 6 pm for residents to get to know each other, enjoy outdoor games while enjoying a free dinner provided by Hy-Vee.
