Cities combatting summer mosquitoes

Local News

It’s summer. It’s hot. And mosquitoes are everywhere in central Iowa.

The City of Clive is using their “mist truck” to spray neighborhoods and hopefully keep the pests away.

“We know the mosquitoes are out there, so we want to be out there getting them too,” said Assistant City Manger Peter De Kock.

If you need a quick tip to fight mosquitoes, make sure there isn’t any stagnant water in places such as a gutter or bird bath.

The Polk County Health Department says they’re seeing more mosquitoes than normal due to heavy rain and flooding from the spring.

• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants

• Stay in places with air conditioning or that use window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside

• Use an EPA-registered insect repellant

• Stop mosquitoes from laying eggs in or near water (once a week, empty, scrub, turn over or cover items that hold water)
