Drake University uses new way to improve experience of minority students

DES MOINES- As a new round of first year students move in, Drake University is testing a new way to improve the college experience  for minority students. The program is called “Flight”. 

Monday was orientation for 30 incoming first-year minority students. They get paired up with upper-class students to learn more about the campus and community resources available. 
 
Director of Student Engagement Tony Tyler says “We know that all students – it’s a big new transition – and it’s something new for them coming from high school. We know students of color face a different set and so we want to provide support for those challenges they’re facing. “
 
New students at Drake move in Tuesday. Returning students move in Friday. Classes Start Monday, August 29th.
