Families upset with memorial trees being torn down

Local News

DES MOINES – More than 100 families are upset after hearing that trees that they had planted in memorial of loved ones will be torn down.

It’s all happening because of new improvements coming to Des Moines Water Works and Gray’s Lake.

A tunnel will be built underneath Fleur Drive to connect both parks.

As a result, these trees are being torn down.

Construction will begin later this month.

The number of trees to be removed this month are just 15% of the total number of trees at the park.

The good news is, the trees removed will be planted somewhere else.
