DES MOINES – An officer killed in a head-on collision last weekend will be laid to rest Wednesday.
Officer Susan Farrell and Officer Carlos Puente-Morales were transporting an inmate back to Des Moines Saturday morning when their patrol car was hit head-on by another vehicle traveling the wrong direction.
Both officers, along with inmate Tosha Hyatt and the driver of the other vehicle, Benjamin Beary, all died in the crash.
Funeral services for Officer Farrell is set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope.
Over 2,000 vehicles from all over the country are expected to be in the processional from the church to the burial site at Highland Memory Gardens.
They’ll go north from Jordan Creek Pkwy. To I-80, and then head east to 80-35 northbound. The processional then continues to 2nd Ave.
DART buses will be made available to and from the burial.
During this procession, motorists should expect detours and delays along and around the listed roadways. Law enforcement officers will be directing traffic and assisting with directing motorists to alternate routes.
Officer Puente-Morales will be laid to rest on Friday at 8:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Des Moines. He’ll be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
