WEST DES MOINES – Thousands gathered Friday to remember and honor the life of fallen Des Moines police officer Carlos Puente-Morales.

THE LIVE STREAM OF THE FUNERAL SERVICE HAS ENDED.

Officer Puente-Morales’s funeral services began at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 7075 Ashworth Road, in West Des Moines.

Immediately following the funeral, a procession of law enforcement and military vehicles traveled from the church in West Des Moines to the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter. Puente-Morales was also a veteran of the Iowa National Guard.

Puente-Morales was remembered as “remarkable” and “unselfish.” 

Des Moines police officers Carlos Puente-Morales and Susan Farrell were transporting an inmate to Des Moines Saturday morning when their patrol car was hit head-on by another vehicle traveling the wrong direction.

Both officers, the inmate, Tosha Hyatt, and the driver of the other vehicle, Benjamin Beary, all died in the crash.
