Gilbert students travel the world

Local News

GILBERT- Imagine having a book you are reading come to life in front of your eyes. Or being able to travel ancient ruins without leaving your classroom. That reality is on the horizon at Gilbert Intermediate School thanks to the One Classroom at a Time grant sponsored by Bankers Trust and Local 5.

Gilbert 5th grade teacher Erica White applied for the grant to buy virtual reality headsets for her classroom. White teaches social studies and writing. The headsets will let students see and explore different places they are studying. Ms. White says “we will go somewhere with virtual reality. We will look into Canada because we talk about that. There’s some ancient civilizations that we learn about  in the Mexico area that we will be able to view in that VR head set.”

White says she enjoys integrating technology into the classroom because it enhances the students’ experience and keeps them more engaged in the subject material.

As part of the One Classroom at a Time grant, Gilbert Intermediate also wins a cultural workshop from CultureAll.
