A Flash Flood Watch in effect for much of central Iowa through Tuesday.
Scattered showers and storms will be possible overnight Monday with some locally heavy rains possible. Some areas have already seen more than 2-3″ of rain in the past few days, so flooding is more likely because of the saturated soils and swollen creeks and rivers.
On Tuesday, the thunderstorm threat will gradually shift south. Morning and early afternoon thunderstorm thunderstorms are possible along I-80. Most of those storms will move into far southern Iowa by the middle of the afternoon. Most of us should dry out Tuesday night before more thunderstorms develop Wednesday, especially in southern and western Iowa.
Thursday could potentially be a soaker of a day with heavy rain and more flash flooding possible. More storms may linger around on Friday before we finally dry out on Saturday. When the week is all said and done, much of Iowa could end up with over 4″ of rain.
