High-speed chase ends with crash in Dallas County

Local News

DALLAS COUNTY – The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Iowa State Patrol Tuesday in stopping a high speed chase along I-80. As a trooper attempted to pull over the Lexus for speeding, the vehicle took off.

Dallas County deputies were able to locate the vehicle around the 106 mile marker  after the Iowa State Patrol had lost sight of the vehicle. At times the vehicle was travelling faster than 140 mph.

Van Meter Police were able to stop the vehicle with spike strips on the interstate. The vehicle then lost control and hit the median but carried on. A pit maneuver was then done to put the car back into the median, but the driver kept going. Eventually a Dallas County Deputy was able to pin the vehicle to a cable barrier.

Both subjects in the vehicle were taken into custody. They were then taken to a nearby hospital after stating they had ingested narcotics.

The driver was identified as Anthony Jones of Georgia. He faces charges in Dallas County for eluding, reckless driving, possession of narcotics, speed, and tinted windows.

The passenger was identified as Fredrick Gordon of Florida. He is wanted out of Kentucky on seven arrest warrants for fraud, illegal use of credit cards and theft.

Additional charges are being filed by the Iowa State Patrol. Gordon will be extradited to Kentucky on his standing warrants.
