It’s official! It is now the 2nd wettest May for Des Moines in the last 100 years!

As of 6:00pm Tuesday, Des Moines recorded 9.3″ of rain at the airport since the start of May.

This is the second highest total for May in Iowa’s capital over the last 100 years, and the fourth highest total for May on record.

The highest rainfall amount for Des Moines in the last 100 years occurred in 1996– a total of 12.13″.

We would have to surpass this amount to see the wettest May in the last 100 years, and it would also be the wettest May on record.

More rain is possible on Tuesday night, but we could have some scattered showers on Wednesday and Thursday as well.

Let’s hope we don’t break this record! We need some dry weather for sure!
