DES MOINES – It’s been nearly five months since the state switched to Medicaid and the complaints are getting louder.
At the State Capitol lawmakers heard from people who provide care under the new managed care system and people who need the care.
Providers say they’re not getting paid from the three companies who took over. Medicaid recipients say things that used to be covered under the state’s old system aren’t covered or it takes too long for get coverage approved.
Lawmakers have confirmed that some care providers have had to close their doors because of the complications from switching to managed care, including not getting paid. They say there are also doctors who’ve said they’re not taking anymore Medicaid patients or any at all.
