Man shot and killed while coyote hunting in Clay County

A northwest Iowa man has died after being shot during coyote hunting in Clay County. 

Authorities responded to a hunting incident about 4 miles south of Royal, Iowa, Sunday around 11:15 a.m., according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. 

Kirk Struve, 47, of Granville, was hunting with a large group of hunters near the intersection of 440th Street and 160th Avenue. 

They said that Struve was shot by a round believed to have come from another member of his hunting party. 

Struve was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting.
