DES MOINES- Local 5 News Meteorologist Brad Edwards received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Iowa State University’s Department of Meteorology on Thursday night.
One of Edwards’ earliest weather memories is watching thunderstorm roll in with his dad from their home’s rooftop in Earlham. By junior high, he had decided he wanted to be a weatherman.
During his time at ISU in meteorology, he made a bigger decision, one that would impact his career forever. Edwards decided to be on TV.
After college, he traveled to Kansas, Florida and then landed a job at The Weather Channel.
Finally, in 1996, he came back to Iowa, the place he calls “home.” Edwards has been leading the weather team ever since and is going on his 20th year in Des Moines.
“The weather here is more exciting and challenging than anywhere else,” said Edwards in an interview about his job.
Edwards has been awarded Central Iowa’s Most Accurate Forecast by WeatherRate for the past nine years.
