DES MOINES - As lawmakers enter the statehouse for the 2019 legislative session, they'll be surrounded by more women than ever before.
Newly elected leaders will bring a different set of viewpoints not only because of their different backgrounds but because of their gender.
“We bring a different perspective into the discussion so it’s not just one woman there on the Republican side. women in conjunction with the Democrat women so I think the tenor will change," said Rep.-elect Mariannette Miller-Meeks. "In the past, there’s been problems with sexual harassment allegations of sexual harassment I just saw that been discussed and saw another member but I think the whole culture of the Senate and the House is going to change with this big influx of women.”
On the House Democratic side, there will be more women representing Iowans for that caucus than men.
