DES MOINES – One of the pole vaulters competing in Wednesday night’s Capitol Square Vault stopped by the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.

Sandi Morris is a professional pole vaulter from Arkansas who won the silver medal in the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. She is a strong supporter of animal conservation and stopped by the zoo to meet the sea lions, who are also known for their high jumping skills.

Local 5 spoke to Sandi about her experience in Rio and how she feels going in to Wednesday’s contest.

“I jumped really well and took home a silver medal for my country, and that was about as much as I could ask for,” Morris said. “I’m just so excited to come here to the Drake Relays and bring all of those performances here and put on a show for the crowd.”
