DES MOINES - Pete Buttigieg made his official announcement over the weekend that he was throwing his name in the hat for a run at the Oval Office.
Buttigieg says that this state is crucial for him and he was excited to meet Iowan's Monday night. A big crowd was there for his rally in Des Moines at Franklin Junior High. His team says about a thousand people were there.
Some of Buttigieg's main talking points were freedom, gun control and his strategy on beating President Donald Trump.
So far, the South Bend Mayor has kind of come out of nowhere and has surged into the field. Drawing a lot of quick support and gaining attention nationwide.
Mayor Pete is only 37-year-old and if elected, would be the first openly gay president.
