The fifth and final suspect charged in the 2017 death of 16-year-old Sabrina Ray will be in court next week after a plea agreement was reached in her case.

22-year-old Josie Bousman, Sabrina’s adoptive cousin, has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to online court records. Bousman’s plea hearing is scheduled for February 1.

Charged with three counts of Kidnapping in the First Degree and one count of Child Endangerment – Death, Bousman is the final family member of Sabrina’s to plead guilty.

Immediate details of the plea agreement were not available.

Sabrina Ray was found dead inside her Perry home in May 2017, weighing only 56 pounds. Sabrina died due to severe malnutrition, according to the Iowa State Medical Examiner.

Two other minors in the home, H.R. and M.R., were confined along with Sabrina, with windows covered from the outside and a lock placed on the door.

According to court documents, Bousman was in charge of Sabrina and two of her minor siblings the night of May 12, 2017. Bousman noticed Sabrina was not breathing and tried to give her water before calling Sabrina’s grandmother, Carla Bousman, to the home on 1st Avenue. Once Carla arrived, she attempted to revive Sabrina, with Sabrina’s adoptive mother, Misty Ray, being called approximately 10 minutes before a call to 911 was placed. Court records note that first responders arrived at the house to find Sabrina “cold to the touch” and deceased.

At the time, Marc and Misty Ray, Sabrina’s adoptive parents, were in Nashville, Tennessee with their son Justin Ray and three others. According to the search warrant application, Marc Ray informed Perry police that upon learning of Sabrina’s death, Misty “discarded the cell phones of Justin Ray, Marc Ray, her 10-year-old son and her own”.

Marc Ray pleaded guilty in December 2018 to Child Endangerment Resulting in Death and three counts of Kidnapping in the Third Degree. He was sentenced to 80 years in prison with a mandatory minimum time served of 35 years.

After pleading guilty earlier in January to Kidnapping in the First Degree and two counts of Kidnapping in the Third Degree, Misty was sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole, as well as an additional 20 years.

Sabrina Ray’s adoptive brother, Justin Ray, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for physically assaulting Sabrina. Carla Bousman, her grandmother, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for false imprisonment and child endangerment.
