Police identify victim in deadly crash

UPDATE (9/30/17)- Des Moines Police have released the names of the people involved in Friday’s accident.

The 58 year-old woman killed was identified by police as Peggy Bragg.

Authorities say she was just getting off of a DART bus when she was hit by the driver of an SUV.

Police identified the driver as a teenager, 16 year-old Jackson Niccum.

Investigators say Niccum’s speed may have been a “signficant contributing factor” in the crash.

So far, no charges have been filed, but police say the investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE (9/29/17)- The woman who was hit by a car while getting off a bus has died.

The driver is a 16-year-old male. Police have not pressed charges against this driver, but say that excessive speed might have been a factor, due to evidence at the scene and witness statements. Other contributing factors are under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

The call came in at 1:22 p.m. A young juvenile driver hit a woman at the 4000 block of University, near the Hy-vee and Louie’s Wine Dive area. The woman was getting off a DART bus when she did not go through a cross walk. That’s when she was hit.
