DES MOINES – Polk County Health officials announced they will be hosting public flu vaccination clinics now through the end of November 2015.
The department will host public access vaccination clinics at various sites around Polk County. The full schedule is available online at www.polkcountyiowa.gov/health.
Additionally, walk-in patients can obtain a flu vaccine at the Polk County Health Department, 1907 Carpenter Avenue, Des Moines, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. A drive-thru clinic will also be offered on Saturday, October 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the Health Department.
Rick Kozin, Director of Polk County Health Department, said, “Last flu season was a good indicator of how the flu viruses are constantly changing. Individuals need to get a flu vaccine each year to protect them against the most recent and common types of flu because last year’s vaccine may not protect you from this year’s flu strains.”
Health officials recommend all children 6 months and older be vaccinated against flu. Older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic health conditions also are encouraged to receive vaccinations before flu season is in full-swing.
Most major insurance plans are accepted; the cost for the vaccination is $20 without insurance.
