DES MOINES — We are less than a year from the 2020 elections. Here in Iowa, Republicans are taking the time to celebrate what they’ve accomplished so far at the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner.
Friday night, among praises for President Trump were also compliments on one senator in particular.
Senator Joni Ernst is up for reelection, meaning tonight’s message at the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner was Republicans must maintain control of the Senate.
It was a message heard all night.
Senator Chuck Grassley talked to the crowd about comments the president made Thursday night.
He said Senator Joni Ernst is relentless about fighting for ethanol and Iowa corn.
“I hope you can see that when Joni Ernst talks, the president listens,” Grassley said.
Friday night’s keynote speaker, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, pushed for Ernst and all Republicans.
“One thing that people don’t appreciate enough about Joni Ernst in my view is her military background. She has commanded troops in combat,” Graham said.
Most of his speech focused on the good President Donald Trump has done since taking office.
“You know why we’re going to win this election? Because we can’t afford to lose.”
Graham also made light of what he thinks are some of the president’s shortfalls.
“I’d rather deal with him being a handful than them (Democrats) running our country.”
Friday night’s GOP dinner came one week after the Democrats hosted their Liberty and Justice Celebration, where 13 presidential hopefuls attended.
