CEDAR RAPIDS – The Republican Cedar Rapids mayor officially announced his candidacy for governor Tuesday night.
Corbett made his announcement tonight in a neighborhood in Cedar Rapids that he helped rebuild after the 2008 floods. In his speech he talked about his promise to Iowa teachers.
“We’re proposing merit pay or performance-based pay for teachers. We’ve talked about this for a long, long, long time and now we have the opportunity to do this,” he said.
Corbett says he’s running on a core-four platform. Taxes, water quality, concern for citizens and K-12 education. He promised to be a conservative republican with an independent streak.
Corbett will challenge current Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for next year’s Republican primary election.
