DAVENPORT – Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley was in eastern Iowa Friday morning to tour the latest flood damage. Davenport was badly hit after the HESCO barriers failed along the Mississippi River and made things worse during the Floods of 2019.
The senator met with community leaders, emergency managers, and small business owners affected by the flood waters. Senator Grassley is hopeful the community will bounce back. He said, “From the standpoint of seeing the damage, it’s done. There’s a couple of phrases or words that stick out that I also heard in southwest Iowa when I was down there two or three times already for that flooded area — the resilience of the people of Iowa and the pulling together of the people of Iowa when you have a natural disaster.”
The City of Davenport has received notice from the National Weather Service that the Mississippi River is expected to rise again next week, possibly hitting 20 feet. The city is encouraging people to keep their sandbags in place.
