Storm Lake man arrested for starting house fire

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KCAU) – After a fire in April caused about $50,000 of damage, Storm Lake Police Department said they made an arrest. 

The police said in a release that on the morning of April 9 at 5:05, an officer noticed a house on fire at 721 Hickory Lane in Storm Lake. The house was unoccupied. The fire department extinguished fires in the basement and the first floor. They spent about two-and-a-half hours on scene. No one was injured. 

The Storm Lake Police Department, Storm Lake Fire Department and Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a joint investigation into the cause of the fire. 

On Thursday afternoon, they charged Thavone Navongsa, 38, of Storm Lake, for causing the house fire. 

Navongsa was already being held in the Buena Vista County Jail on unrelated charges and the arrest warrant was served on him at that location. 

He was charged with second-degree arson, a class C felony.
