Osceola double homicide

OSCEOLA- A trial has been scheduled for an Osceola man charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Richard Carson, 38, has plead not guilty to shooting and killing 22-year-old Erick Reyna and 27-year-old Noe Rascon, both of Osceola.

On Saturday, January 24, Osceola Police received a report that Reyna and Rascon had gone missing sometime on Friday night.

On Sunday, January 25, Reyna and Rascon were found shot to death in a vehicle in rural Clarke County. Both victims died of gunshot wounds.

38-year old Carson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

In addition to Carson, Lynn Sutton, Tracy Johnson and Christopher Elben are all being charged as accessories to the fact.

According to court documents, a female reported Carson saying, “beating up two friends and taking them into the county to dump them off.” The documents say Carson told investigators he did get into an altercation with Rascon at another residence in town. Carson said during that fight, a gun was discharged. Carson later claimed the shooting was in “self-defense.”

Iowa Courts Online indicate a second pretrial conference is scheduled for January 12, 2016. A jury trial has been scheduled for February 9, 2016.
