Waukee student says school played favoritism in rally

WAUKEE - A local high schooler is calling out her school after she says they started playing favorites.

While her Waukee classmates participated in a nationwide walk-out for gun reform, she says her principal made it difficult for her to have a rally in support of her second amendment rights.

Alexis Derby says that the school district should have been more welcoming of opposing views instead of picking a side.

She felt that Waukee's principal wasn't on her side.

She says he wouldn't allow her to promote a counter rally like he did with students who participated in a walk out for gun reform.
