West Des Moines Police seek possible prowler on running path

Local News

WEST DES MOINES – On Monday night, along the Jordan Creek trail in West Des Moines, a jogger caught a man in disguise lurking near the path.

The woman saw the man dressed in a camouflage outfit sitting in some bushes on the side of the trail. That is when she decided to call the police.

Sgt. Dan Wade of the West Des Moines Police Department said she made the right call alerting the police.

“If you do see something unusual, then leave the area, give us a call, and we’ll be happy to come take a look,” says Sgt. Wade.

He also wanted to stress that they police would much rather get a call and find out that it was nothing, then someone not contact them and it turn into something.

Local 5 On Your Side has some tips for you to stay safe while out on the trails:

  • Wear reflective clothing
  • Travel in pairs (when possible)
  • Carry a cell phone
  • Bring a light

Patrolling has been stepped up in the West Des Moines trails and the police department is also looking into reinstating a bike patrol program to keep these trails safe and secure.
