DAVIS COUNTY – The body found in a burned-out car in early 2018 died of smoke inhalation, according to law enforcement officials.

63-year-old Sharon Kay Moritz of Northwood was located in a car in the area of 27772 Vetch Ave. in Pulaski, Ia. in January. Moritz was the registered owner of the vehicle, a white Chevy Impala. The investigation found that Moritz had family from the Davis County area.

The Davis County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announced the investigation was concluded Wednesday.

Moritz died of probable smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, and the manner of death has been ruled a suicide, according to the state medical examiner.
