MARSHALLTOWN – Mental illness is a growing concern in Iowa. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the last seventeen years, there’s been a 36 percent increase.
The Mid-Iowa Triumph Recovery Center was founded in 2013 in Marshalltown, organizers say it helps people coupe with mental and emotional issues.
“All I know is that this is so important and I see it working everyday”, Executive Director Sharon Swope said.
The program recently expanded because they are seeing at least three new people join every week.
“We all have mental health issues find somebody who doesn’t there isn’t anybody and it just happens that a lot of people are diagnosed in this day in age and they haven’t always been”, said Swope.
MITRC is funded thanks to local health organizations and the county.
